GATTI ROSSSI UN LABIRINTO DI VETRO/THE SECRET KILLER/1974 Spain-Italy

This review is based on the R2 Marketing Films DVD: THE SECRET KILLER, which is letterboxed at 2.35: 1.

Released in the US in 1977 by Joseph Bernner Associates Inc. as EYEBALL and in 1985 on video by PRISM ENTERTAIMENT. I have the original pre-record, which is
hideously cropped at 1.33:1, losing half of the original 2.35:1 framing. The garish artwork on the box is a rather ugly collage featurning slashed, bloody...

am very fond of EYEBALL, although I cannot really articulate why at the moment. (I never saw a Lenzi film that disappointed me, however.) It puzzles me that
your R2 Marketing Films DVD is entitled SECRET KILLER; my R2 Marketing Films DVD is entitled LABYRINTH DES SCHRECKENS.

Even Lenzi's bad/very flawed films (BLACK DEMONS) have a bizarre energy which makes them interesting. My Marketing Films versions features both titles, one
in brackets, on the presentation.

At the time those films were made, there were actually two bullrings in Barcelona, the Monumental and the Arenas, the latter of which is now being converted
into a shopping mall. I've only seen them from the outside, so I can't really tell which one this is.

It does look like the locations were stolen, especially the murder on the ramblas in which you see people in the background looking surprised and at the camera
if you look closely. One scene is shot in a mud patch. It's a somewhat ugly looking film made in beautiful locations. I think they might have had scenes
set in other locales but the producer may have failed to get expensive permits. They just show a quick shot of the famous bullfighting area, for example, as a
drive-by. That would...

Maybe he was angry with Cunillés! I don't know, from the top of my head if he's from Barcelona, but he's certainly Catalan and has been largely
based there.
I wonder, from your words, if the locations were stolen, which might explain the poor set-ups you mention.
The police are commonly depicted as crude in contemporary Spanish films anyway, which could not really be done before 1976 or so.
There have been cases of scripts for foreign films made in Spain where...

Don't know this one. The bit about the American flag is priceless, but I would have no trouble accepting Rigaud as an American priest, but then that could
be because he had done some Broadway work in his early years. Now that the Cunilleses, as far as I know, divide their time between Spain and the States, doing
distribution work, I presume they'd gain a more accurate feeling for things American.
